The Six-Month Merchandise Plan

Learning Objectives:

The Merchandise Plan is used to project the sales, inventory, and profit goals for a department or an entire store for each month within a six-month period. Students were required to complete a Six-Month Merchandise Plan to show their knowledge of the relationships that exist between net sales, markdowns, inventory, purchases, gross margin, etc.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The calculations of formulas are critical in creating a merchandise plan for example, BOM, GMROI, and IMU.
  • The merchandise plan helps with achieving desired sales, profit goals, and how to spend an organization’s capital wisely.
  • Learning the fundamentals will help careful planning with knowledge of carrying the “right” stock and “right” quantities.
